An epic SoCal match won by Long Beach City over San Diego Mesa has caused a ripple effect at the top of this week's CCCWVCA State Top 25 Rankings. San Joaquin Delta takes over as the new #1-ranked team with American River moving up to #2 while LBCC at #3 is the new top squad in Southern California. 

SD Mesa's 17-match win streak dating back to last year is stopped in five sets as the Olympians slip to #4. 

Rounding out the top 10 are #5 Sierra, #6 Feather River, #7 Fresno City, #8 Grossmont, #9 Moorpark and #10 Orange Coast. 

The undefeated is down to just two teams in Long Beach and #14 LA Mission. 

Fresno head coach Kieran Roblee (and her loyal assistant coaching staff over the years) hit a milestone in becoming the winningest coach in the Rams volleyball 49-year history with victory #206 in just her eighth season. 

  1. SAN JOAQUIN DELTA, Big 8, 13-1: The Mustangs swept Diablo Valley to open Big 8 conference play and have won four straight. Mia Alomia scored eight kills in just 11 swings (.636) in the DVC match. Delta gets its platinum card to move up one for the state's top spot this week. NorCal #1; Last Week's State Rank: #2
  2. AMERICAN RIVER, Big 8, 12-1: The Beavers scored conference-opening sweeps over Diablo Valley and Folsom Lake to extend its streak to five consecutive. It will be 1 v. 2 when they play Delta on Sept. 25 as SJD is responsible for American River's only loss on Sept. 7. ARC climbs a slot. NorCal #2; Last Week's State Rank: #3
  3. LONG BEACH CITY, South Coast South, 9-0: The Vikings stay undefeated by sweeping Mt. San Jacinto then sending shockwaves through the South by getting past Mesa in five (16-14). LBCC led 2-0, SDM rallied to win next two sets and held a 13-11 lead in the fifth, but the Vikings pulled off the huge victory. Enaya Vaielua was a State Player of the Week #5 while Kaylani Moncada had 21 digs in the Mesa triumph. LBCC soars four spots up as region's new leader. SoCal #1; Last Week's State Rank: #7
  4. SAN DIEGO MESA, Pacific Coast Athletic, 9-1: The Olympians completed a dominating sweep over Grossmont in a PCAC tilt (75-42), then suffered their first loss of 2024 in the 5-set thriller defeat v. Long Beach. Jaiden Mojica was a State Player of the Week. Mesa falls three spaces. SoCal: #2; Last Week's State Rank: #1
  5. SIERRA, Big 8, Big 8, 13-3: The Wolverines started conference play with sweeps over Modesto and Santa Rosa. Jordyn Deter leads all state setters in assists per set at 11.05. Sierra falls a slot. NorCal: #3; Last Week's State Rank: #4
  6. FEATHER RIVER, Golden Valley, 15-4: The Golden Eagles are on an 11-match win streak, picking up 4-set wins over Hartnell and Los Medanos and sweeping Sequoias. Ani Tuinauvai made a double-double (10 kills, 10 digs) in the COS victory. Despite the recent success, FRC settles for a 1-spot drop. NorCal #4; Last Week's State Rank: #5
  7. FRESNO CITY, Central Valley, 10-4: The Rams opened CVC play over Reedley and Merced and extend one of the longest win streaks of any kind in any sport at 178 straight wins in conference matches. Asia Allen had nine kills and six blocks in the two wins.   8. GROSSMONT, Pacific Coast Athletic, 9-5: The Griffins had their 37-match win streak going back to 2021 in PCAC play stopped in the 3-set defeat v. Mesa. They rebounded with a sweep over Southwestern. Eyleen Sanchez ripped eight kills (.538), served six aces and passed at 2.4 in the team's win over SWC. SoCal #3; Last Week's State Rank: #8
  9. MOORPARK, Western State North, 9-2: The Raiders have won five straight, including a sweep over MiraCosta and a 4-set triumph over Canyons. Prior Borick posted 34 digs and eight aces in the two wins. SoCal #4; Last Week's State Rank: #9
  10. ORANGE COAST, Orange Empire, 9-1: The Pirates extended their win streak to nine, defeating Santa Monica in four and sweeping Santiago Canyon in their OEC opener. Caprie Troccoli recorded 11 kills (.409 hitting) and five blocks in the SMC contest. SoCal #5; Last Week's State Rank: #10
  11. MT. SAN ANTONIO, South Coast North, 9-4: The Mounties swept Golden West, then won the Battle of the Mounts, defeating Mt. San Jacinto in four. Emma Carson contributes 20 kills and 23 digs combined in the two wins. SoCal: #6; Last Week's State Rank:#11
  12. BAKERSFIELD, Western State South, 6-4: The Renegades did not play last week. Amber Dela Cruz leads the team defense, averaging 5.13 digs per set. SoCal #7; Last Week's State Rank: #12
  13. SAN MATEO, Coast South, 7-5: The Bulldogs defeated Solano for the second time this year (both in four) and swept Los Medanos. Sina Leha'uli scored 11 kills and 12 digs v. Solano. NorCal #6; Last Week's State Rank: #13
  14. LA MISSION, Western State North, 12-0: The Eagles have yet to lose this season and upped the win streak to 12 with their fifth straight sweep, over West LA. Taylor Boone is setting an average of 9.79 assists per set. LAM climbs one spot. SoCal #8; Last Week's State Rank: #15
  15. SOLANO, Bay Valley, 12-4: The Falcons swept Cabrillo, then had their 6-match win streak foiled in a four by San Mateo. Aliyah Aguiar put down 23 kills in the two contests. Solano falls a rung on the ladder. NorCal #7; Last Week's State Rank: #14
  16. SANTA BARBARA CITY, Western State North, 8-2: The Vaqueros got past Pasadena in four. Kaylin Cooney pounded 15 kills (hit .429) and made six blocks. SBCC rises a step up. SoCal #9; Last Week's State Rank: #17
  17. TAFT, Central Valley, 14-2: The Cougars opened CVC play with sweeps over Coalinga and Reedley. Amber-Tania Makainai totaled 22 assists and 23 digs for the week. Taft rides the elevator one floor up. NorCal #8; Last Week's State Rank: #18
  18. CERRITOS, South Coast South, 6-2: The Falcons swept San Bernardino Valley as Jasmine Soto-Castro knocked down 11 kills (.450) with four aces. Cerritos grabs a Lyft and arrives two spaces higher. SoCal #10; Last Week's State Rank: #20
  19. SHASTA, Golden Valley, 13-4: The Knights have won five consecutive and nine of their last 10 matches. Last week, they defeated Cabrillo in four and swept San Jose. Emerie Brown collected nine kills, 17 digs and four aces v. Cabrillo. Shasta rock-climbs up two pegs. NorCal #9; Last Week's State Rank: #21
  20. SANTA ROSA, Big 8, 9-6: The Bear Cubs beat Cosumnes River in four, then were swept by Sierra. SRJC has wins over Shasta (1-2 v. Knights) and Hartnell. Kiana Walker spikes 11 kills and five blocks with three aces v. CRC. Santa Rosa punches a golden ticket to rocket up five spaces. NorCal #10; Last Week's State Rank: #T25
  21. CANYONS, Western State South, 5-5: The Cougars lost in four to Moorpark, but with a few other SoCal teams struggling with inconsistency, have found their way moving up the rankings. Five-set losses to Grossmont and Cerritos and wins over MiraCosta and Mt. San Jacinto have helped their cause. Ana Vasquez is leading Canyons in kills per set at 2.65.   22. COALINGA, Central Valley, 10-2: The Falcons had an 8-match win string stopped by Taft in a 3-set defeat that opened CVC play and then swept Porterville. Sarah Wold tallied 28 set assists, 15 digs and five aces in the two contests. Coalinga rope climbs one space up. NorCal #11; Last Week's State Rank: #23

SANTA MONICA, Western State South, 6-5: The Corsairs lost to Orange Coast in four, then had a wild 5-set win over Ventura (15-12) that saw the Pirates win the third and fourth sets by high scores, 35-33 and 27-25. Allison Horin produces 28 kills and 30 digs in the two matches. SMC's lack of quality wins plummets it six spots. SoCal #12; Last Week's State Rank: #16
  24. PASADENA CITY, South Coast North, 5-8: The Lancers lost to Santa Barbara in four sets (100-93 in points), but despite a grueling schedule v. top teams, Pasadena's two wins in the last 10 matches have caught up to them rankings-wise. Biko Hollie scores 14 kills and 14 digs. PCC slides down four positions. SoCal #13; Last Week's State Rank: #19
     T25. OHLONE, Coast South, 10-2: The Renegades jump on to the state rankings behind a 6-match win streak, sweeping Siskiyous and Contra Costa last week. Rilee Nobori placed 11 kills in just 13 attempts (.846) in the CC victory. NorCal #T12; Last Week's State Rank: Unranked
     T25. HARTNELL, Coast North, 6-8: The Panthers won their third 5-set match of the month in edging Sequoias in five, then took a set off #6 Feather River in a 4-set loss, as they enter the rankings. Theresa Habrik was a State Player of the Week. NorCal #T12; Last Week's State Rank: Unranked
     T25. SEQUOIAS, Central Valley, 9-6: The Giants outlasted Porterville in five, lost to Hartnell in five (15-10), and were swept by Feather River.      MiraCosta, Pacific Coast Athletic, 4-5: The Spartans were swept by Moorpark, then moved to 2-0 in the PCAC by beating Palomar in four. SoCal #T15
     San Bernardino Valley, Inland Empire Athletic, 6-5: The Wolverines were swept by Cerritos, then swept Rio Hondo. SoCal #T15       
    Riverside City, Orange Empire, 7-4: The Tigers beat Desert in four and downed Irvine Valley in five in their OEC opener. SoCal #T15
    Modesto, Big 8, 9-6: The Pirates were swept by Sierra, then edged Cosumnes River in five (15-9) to begin conference. NorCal #15
    Ventura, Western State North, 4-5: The Pirates edged Saddleback in five (15-13), then fell to Santa Monica in five (15-12, outscored overall 123-113).
    Cosumnes River, Big 8, 8-5: The Hawks lost to Santa Rosa in four and Modesto in five in a tough start to Big 8 play.
    Saddleback, Orange Empire, 4-3: The Bobcats lost to Ventura in five. 
    Mt. San Jacinto, Inland Empire Athletic, 6-8: The Eagles ran into a tough sailing in being swept by Long Beach and losing to Mt. SAC in four.
    Golden West, Orange Empire, 3-5: The Rustlers were swept by Mt. San Antonio, then swept Santa Ana to open conference play.
    Merced, Central Valley, 9-2: The Blue Devils had their 7-match win streak stopped by Fresno after sweeping Columbia in the CVC opener. 
    Monterey Peninsula, Coast North, 7-1: The Lobos did not play last week.
    Allan Hancock, Western State North, 7-1: The Bulldogs swept Antelope Valley.
    Sacramento City, Big 8, 8-7: The Panthers swept Folsom Lake in their conference opener.
    Victor Valley, Inland Empire Athletic, 6-2: The Rams swept LA Harbor and LA City and have won four in a row.
    Cypress, Orange Empire, 4-7: The Chargers recorded their third straight sweep, over Fullerton in their conference opener.
