De Anza Repeats With 2nd Consecutive State Title Over SDCC

The De Anza College women's badminton team took an early lead on a weary travel team in San Diego City College. The Dons started off the evening with a solid win led by Pinky Li over Gina Niph which concluded in an amazing 18 minutes. That set the tone for the rest of the dual team match which had De Anza claiming their 2^nd straight CCCAA State Championship. The start of the 2^nd singles round was a walkover by Samantha Grahm, who was the only player to win a match in the 1^st round of singles for San Diego City. However, badminton enthusiasts were able to enjoy additional action with an array of 2^nd round singles and doubles matches after the title was decided. 

Tomorrow's action will be for the State singles and doubles titles starting at noon at De Anza College and continues on Saturday, May 10^th.

Pinky Li looks to finish up her community college career as she ran through the singles of the team dual, only allowing 21 points in four sets, and hasn't dropped even one set in singles play while at De Anza. Stay tuned to cccaasports.org for additional daily recaps and news.
