San Diego City extended its conference win streak to 29 with a 68-56 road victory at Grossmont to open the PCAC South season. Robby Robinson scored 14 of his team-high 18 points in the second half to go with seven rebounds and four assists.
Joseph Riley hit three of his four 3-pointers in the second half and ended up with 15 points in Friday's win.
The Knights struggled offensively in the first half, making only nine of their 29 shots, but they held Grossmont to 19 percent shooting (4-for-21) and went into halftime with a 24-14 lead.
Robinson started the second half with a steal and break-away dunk, which was followed by a triple from Riley to give the Knights a 15-point lead. City went ahead by as many as 18, but the Griffins fought their way back to within 12 points on multiple occasions, including with 7:23 remaining in the game, but Riley hit a big 3-pointer at the 7:05 mark that stopped Grossmont's momentum.
The Knights shot a much-improved 53.6 percent in the second half and made 5-of-7 3-pointers as they went on to earn their 8th straight victory over Grossmont. City's last loss to the Griffins came on December 6, 2015.
City has gone undefeated in the PCAC South the previous three seasons and has not lost a PCAC South game since February 15, 2015.
The Knights will play their conference home opener on Wednesday, January 23 at 5 p.m. vs. Cuyamaca.
