Trosin powers ARC football over Sac City
by Joe Davidson, Sacramento Bee
Tanner Trosin passed for two touchdowns and ran for two to power state-ranked American River College over rival Sacramento City 44-23 on Saturday at Hughes Stadium in a NorCal Football Conference regular-season finale.
Deon Ransom rushed for 220 yards and two touchdowns, and Trosin had touchdown tosses to Tyler Young and J'Juan Muldrow as the No. 5 Beavers (9-1) secured a wild-card berth in the first California Community College playoffs. ARC lost its state No. 1 ranking after last week's 31-28 loss to defending state and national champion Butte, which also clinched a playoff berth.
ARC will play at longtime national power City College of San Francisco next Saturday. The Rams (9-1) lost only to American River this season, 13-0 at ARC on Sept. 27, the only shutout in the 38-year coaching career of coach George Rush. But because the Rams won the Bay 6 Conference championship with a 23-7 victory Saturday over San Mateo, they will host. ARC tied Butte for the NorCal Conference title.
A year after going 1-9, Sac City went 6-4 and expects to land a non-playoff bowl game.
