CSM ROLLS OVER FOOTHILL, 63-10; HOLDS OWLS TO RECORD MINUS 43 YARDS RUSHING
SAN MATEO -- DJ Peluso ran for three touchdowns and 100 yards on just seven carries as No. 2 state-ranked College of San Mateo remained unbeaten in Bay 6 league play with a 63-10 victory over visiting Peninsula rival Foothill College Saturday afternoon at College Heights Stadium
The Bulldogs (7-1, 3-0 Bay 6) totaled 520 yards, 342 on the ground. Foothill (1-7, 0-3) was held to 47 total net yards, including a minus 43 yards rushing. The CSM rush defense, led by Semisi Paea and Keith Marcus each with six tackles, set a school team record -- bettering the minus 42 yards rushing Diablo Valley was held to in 2013.
Peluso, a 6-0, 215-pound sophomore out of El Camino High (South San Francisco), scored the game's first TD on a 60-yard run on CSM's second play from scrimmage. San Mateo High grad Michael Latu rushed for two scores near the end of the second quarter to boost the Bulldogs to a 42-3 halftime lead.
CSM quarterback Justin Burgess completed eight of 15 passes for 178 yards, with Kevin Kutchera catching four for 58 yards and Raeshawn Lee three for 116 yards – including a 65-yard score.
San Mateo held a 59-10 advantage early in the fourth quarter and scored the game's final four points in unusual fashion – on a pair of safeties when the Owls, deep in their own territory, twice snapped the ball over the quarterback.
NEXT: CSM hosts Diablo Valley Saturday (Nov. 8) at 1 p.m. in the final regular season home game before closing out Bay 6 play at City College of San Francisco on Nov. 15.
