Boyd, Rangel garner CCCSIA Athlete of the Month accolades for February

SACRAMENTO - Basketball Star Barbara Rangel from Moorpark College and Tennis Star Kalman Boyd from College of the Desert turned in outstanding performances during February and were rewarded for their efforts by being named the California Community College Sports Information Association Men's and Women's Athletes of the Month.
Rangel is the second cager from Moorpark to be honored this year as Athlete of the Month, while Boyd is the first men’s tennis player to be recognized since June 2017.
Men’s Athlete of the Month
Kalman Boyd, College of the Desert, Men’s Tennis, So., Fusian Academy
College of the Desert Men's Tennis Sophomore Kalman Boyd made a major impact for the Roadrunners during the month of February. Boyd plays in the #1 spot in both singles and doubles and was undefeated during the month. He won all of his singles matches, going 5-0. and joined his with doubles partner, Freshman Alex Kuperstein, to post another perfect 5-0 record in pairs. His decisive set scores clearly demonstrate his month of dominance. Boyd owned a 60-8 game-advantage over his opponents for his five singles matches, while dropping only one game in doubles play with Kuperstein.
Women’s Athlete of the Month
Barbara Rangel, Moorpark College, Basketball, So., Ventura High School
Moorpark Women’s Basketball Sophomore Center Barbara Rangel has developed into the most unstoppable force in the State. She led Moorpark to its first Western State Conference title since 1991 and snapped Ventura’s 26-year hold on the WSC crown. The Raiders recorded a perfect 6-0 mark in the second half of WSC play to complete their sweep of the circuit and ascend to the top of the State rankings.
Rangel was unstoppable during the month and made an impact in every phase of the game. She easily averaged a double-double for the month with 19.7 points and 13.5 rebounds per game, while expanding her game on both ends of the court with 2.9 assists on offense and 2.9 blocked shots per contest on defense.
