3C2A Women's Wrestling State Championship Preview
The second ever 3C2A Women's Wrestling State Championships will take place on Saturday at Sacramento City College.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The 2024 3C2A Women's Wrestling State Championships are set to take place on Saturday, April 20th at Sacramento City College. In just the second year of the sports existence at the 3C2A level, 13 teams and 98 individual student-athletes will be competing in the tournament.
Cerritos will enter as the heavy favorites after repeating as the team dual champions back in March and winning their first state championship in the individual tournament last season.
Rebekah Jiminez (102 lbs), Lucy Guadarrama (109 lbs), Natalie Resendez (148 lbs) and Nile Jernigan (180 lbs) will lead the way for the Falcons as they all remain at the top of the class in the final state rankings of the season.
The East LA Huskies made some noise towards the end of the regular season and climbed into the No. 2 spot as a team in the state rankings.
In their Leader of the Pack Tournament on April 6th, the Huskies placed second with 171 points (1st Cerritos - 190.5). The duo of Mia Ramirez (116 lbs) and Isabella Calle (220 lbs) dominated the event with first place finishes and rank No. 1 in the state in their respective classes.
Although Mt. San Antonio College has just one top ranked wrestler on their roster with Megan Irwin (136 lbs), the Mounties still rank No. 3 as a team and will have a shot to win it all.
Palomar's Sierra Mefford (160 lbs) sits atop of her weight class and has led the Comets ascension to the No. 4 spot in the state rankings.
Fresno City, Sacramento City and Delta follow as the top Northern teams and rank 5-7 in the state. The final five five teams in the rankings include Santa Ana, Bakersfield, Santa Rosa, Lassen and Redwoods.
Wrestling will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the North Gymnasium at Sacramento City College on Saturday morning.
