No. 8 Ventura Making Waves In State Women's Volleyball Top 25 #6
Competing in one of the state's strongest leagues, the Western State Conference North Division, Ventura College has been a regular playoff qualifier. The Pirates have put together a recent hot streak that has included victories in a revenge sweep over Santa Monica and a thrilling 5-set win over San Diego Mesa.
This has allowed the Pirates (11-3 record) to crack the top 10 at #8 in this week's 3CWVCA State Volleyball Top 25 Rankings #6. VC is hoping to make it back to the 3C2A Championship Tournament after making it in 2023.
Undefeated Fresno City (18-0) solidified its #1 ranking by beating #2 Feather River for the second time this year, winning in four sets on Friday. The Rams are the North and state's RPI leader at .688. The Golden Eagles' 20 victories (20-2) lead the state, five of those were accomplished last week.
Those two powers are followed by undefeated South bigwhigs #3 San Diego Miramar (14-0) and #4 Los Angeles Mission (15-0, most wins among SoCal squads). The rest of the top 10 include #5 Taft (15-2) moving up two spots, San Joaquin Delta (12-5) taking a leap of four slots to #6, San Mateo (13-4) at #7, Ventura, Long Beach City (9-5) at #9, and San Diego Mesa (12-5) dropping four positions to #10.
SoCal current RPI leader (.631) San Bernardino Valley (11-1) is 11th as Ventura is the only team to defeat the Wolverines this season. At #12, Saddleback (10-1) also has just one loss and that was against SBVC. Pasadena City (12-6) is 13th and has a number of quality victories in its log.
Moving on up were #14 Lassen, #15 Moorpark, #16 Palomar, and #21 Cosumnes River--all up one spot. Both Bakersfield #18 and Cerritos, using an upset in five sets over SMC, at #25 leap on to this week's rankings.
The South now has a slight edge in ranked teams, 13-12, over the North.
The Coast Conference decided just last week to drop the two divisions this year and go with a 9-team league for the 2026 season. Las Positas, San Jose City and City College of San Francisco all were unable to field squads this year. The conference will decide the Coast championship with a 3-match tournament (quarterfinals, semifinals) culminating with the finals on Nov. 13.
