Rocklin, CA – A large Sierra College crowd welcomed Clovis Community College to Rocklin and to the CCCAA, as the Wolverines hosted the Crush in their inaugural intercollegiate contest Saturday, August 27. While the Wolverines netted a pair of second-half goals to notch a 2-0 shutout win, the game was significant beyond the score as it marked the first game for a new northern California program since Folsom Lake took the field four years ago.
Clovis coach Orlando Ramirez was hired less than a month ago and, in that time, has assembled a 21-woman roster that battled the speedy Wolverines to a scoreless first half. Crush keeper Beatriz Lopez kept Sierra off the board until Callye Lahmann found the back of the net in the 55th minute off a cross from Vanessa Alonzo. Twenty minutes later, Sierra's Sarah Sherwood banged in the rebound of a Kelsey Rodriguez free kick from midfield to complete the scoring. Wolverine GK Jamie Goodwin picked up the shutout.
