 AGUSTIN'S 3 GIVES CSM FINAL LEAD IN 66-62 WIN OVER SANTA MONICA

SAN MATEO -- Ava Agustin netted her fourth 3-pointer with 3:56 remaining to give College of San Mateo a 59-56 lead and the Bulldogs held off visiting Santa Monica College for a 66-62 victory in Thursday's nightcap of Tom Martinez Invitational play at College Heights Gymnasium.

Following Agustin's crucial basket from the top of the key, with the 30-second clock running down, the Bulldogs quickly stole the ball back and Courtney Townsend executed a fast break lay-up for a 61-56 that made the difference down the stretch.

Augustin finished with 17 points, eight in the final quarter, while Townsend topped all scorers with 18. Coral Yu added 10. 

There were 16 lead changes and six ties in the game. CSM fell behind, 40-33, at the half, however, and was down by two points, 50-48, after three quarters. San Mateo scored the first four points of the final period, exchanging the lead five times before Agustin decided things.

CSM evened its season record at 7-7 and will play Reedley College at 7 p.m. on Friday evening. Reedley (5-8) fell to Bute, 99-46, in another Thursday game of the 8-team statewide prescheduled event. Other scores: College of the Sequoias 75, Gavilan 46; Shasta 86, Merritt 70.
