Modesto sweeps Wildcat Cup; Meet honors legacy of Chico State track and field program

SALINAS - Modesto Junior College, last year's women's Northern California champion and men's runner-up, appears to be ready to contend for top team honors again in 2025 after strong team performances at the Wildcat Cup hosted by Hartnell College. The Wildcat Cup has brought teams together who have coaches on staff who competed for NCAA DII powerhouse CSU Chico. This year's teams in attendance were Hartnell, Modesto, Merritt, Yuba College, Santa Rosa Junior College, and De Anza College. The Pirates enjoyed two new meet records on the men's side and three on the women's. The Pirate men tallied 195 points for a comfortable 51 point victory over Hartnell College. On the women's side, it was a closer affair but still saw the Pirates prevail by nine points 172 to 163 over Hartnell College.
Modesto JC pole vaulter Claire Pierce set a new meet record in the women's competition, clearing 3.50m. Shaylan Roy-Williams also set a meet record breaking the previous mark set by her sister Candace Roy-Williams. Roy-Williams landed in the sand at 5.50m. The Pirates won the 4x100 (49.79) with Roy-Wiliams also setting a new 100m meet record at 12.01. Kylie Davis won the 100mH in 15.60 and javelin (33.90m) for the Pirates. Jade Thomas cleared 1.50m in the high jump for her victory.
