Cruz repeats, Yahya shatters 20-year record
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Kailey Yahya of Chabot and Liliana Cruz of Sierra were named this week’s California Community College Fastpitch Coaches’ Association Player and Pitcher of the Week honors on Monday, April 20.
This week’s 3CFCA Player of the Week, Yahya, shattered a 20-year state record, swiping her 70th base – 12 on the week – as Chabot picked up a pair of wins on the week; the next closest base stealer in the state has 27 fewer swiped bags. Yahya, who leads the state in batting average (.580) went 14-for-18.
For the second time this season, Cruz gets the Pitcher of the Week nod. She led Sierra to a 3-0 record, earning the win in all three of the Wolverines’ contests. She pitched 19.2 innings, striking out 22 batters while allowing just two earned runs. In a doubleheader sweep of No. 19 Folsom Lake, the southpaw spun 12.2 scoreless innings with 19 punchouts.
