Turgeon, Hawks post staggering numbers, earn athletes of the week
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Grace Turgeon of College of the Redwoods and Vanessa Hawks from Mt. San Antonio College earn California Community College Fastpitch Coaches’ Association Player and Pitcher of the Week as the two put up big numbers, leading their teams to victories.
Turgeon was a force at the top of the Redwoods lineup in a pair of wins over Chabot March 3. She stole nine bases in the two games, six coming in one game, tying the 3C2A single-game record. She hit .700, 7-for-10, across the two games, scoring six runs and driving in six. Turgeon is hitting .339 on the season with 17 stolen bases.
Hawks was virtually unhittable on the week as the Mounties earned a pair of South Coast conference wins in week six. Hawks tossed a five-inning no hitter to knock off East Los Angeles, 8-0. She followed that up blanking No. 13 Long Beach, allowing just one hit while striking out six. All told, Hawks spun 12 innings of one-hit ball on the week. She walked just four.
