Cano, Byram impress in week seven
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Fernanda Cano of Chaffey College and Brittney Byram of Feather River College earn California Community College Fastpitch Coaches’ Association Player and Pitcher of the Week as the power their squads to a combined 8-1 week.
Cano has been one of the state’s best bats all season, and week seven was no exception. The third baseman went 8-for-14 across five games to lead the Panthers to a 5-0 record and first place standing in the Inland Empire. She blasted a pair of homers – she’s now fourth in the state with nine on the season – and added a pair of doubles to her ledger. Cano has driven in the third most runs in California (35) through 28 games.
Byram was a workhorse out in the circle for the Golden Eagles, pitching in all four of Feather River’s contests last week. She struck out 28 hitters in 21.1 innings pitched, picking up three wins. Byram’s two best starts were three-run complete games, each with five strikeouts to help the Golden Eagles beat No. 17 Folsom Lake and San Jose City.
