Doepping, Sierra lead teams to undefeated starts
LOS ANGELES, Calif. –Lauren Doepping of Palomar and Lola Sierra from San Mateo earn California Community College Fastpitch Coaches’ Association Player and Pitcher of the Week as the two power their squads to undefeated starts to the season.
Doepping was unstoppable at the plate. Although a small sample, the sophomore hit .833 and 60% of her hits left the ball park. She was 5-for-6 with three bombs as Palomar mashed its way to a pair of run-rule victories last week – 12-0 over Grossmont and 15-3 over Mt. San Jacinto. The Comets begin PCAC play 1-0, with big games against No. 20 Southwestern and No. 18 San Diego Mesa this week.
Doepping is a staggering 14-for-19 with seven bombs through the team’s first nine games.
Sierra went 2-0 on the week, pitching a shutout in a victory over Lassen. She struck out five across six innings of two-hit ball. Her first start of the week was a 10 strikeout performance, leading the 17-0 Bulldogs past No. 6 Cosumnes River. All told, Sierra tossed 12 innings and struck out 15.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Mia Napa of San Mateo was incredible at the plate, hitting .800 with four homers and 10 RBI. The Bulldogs slugger is hitting .535 with 10 homers thus far.
