Defending Champs Cypress Beats Cosumnes River 7-3
SARATOGA, CA — The South No. 2 seed Cypress College Chargers used a pair of home runs to earn a 7-3 win over North No. 4 seed Cosumnes River College to close out day one of the 2024 3C2A Softball State Championship.
Cypress returns to West Valley College to play San Joaquin Delta tomorrow at 2 p.m. Cosumnes River will travel to San Jose City College to play Mt. San Antonio College in an elimination game at 2 p.m.
The Chargers took control of the game in the fourth when Lizbeth Gomez and Jaylene Duarte hit back-to-back solo home runs to give Cypress a 3-1 lead. Durate drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth and finished with two hits, two runs, and two RBIs.

Cypress continued to roll and scored two more runs in both the fifth and sixth innings. Kimberley MacPherson kept the momentum with a bases-loaded single followed by a sacrifice fly from Mikala Jacobsen. Nanea Kyle scored on a passed ball in the sixth.
The Hawks made things interesting in the top of the seventh, scoring a pair of runs off two hits and an error but could get no closer.

Kaitlyn Reynolds did her part in the circle for the Chargers, allowing just six hits with two strikeouts to improve to 37-7. She helped out her cause at the plate with an RBI single in the third to score the Chargers' first run.
Malia Babas started the game with a bang, tripling down the right field line to immediately get the Hawks into scoring position. Abigail Woodfill drove her in two batters later to give Cosumnes River the opening 1-0 lead.
Cypress improves to 38-7 and Cosumnes River falls to 37-9.
