Gomez, Johnson Named 3CFCA Players of the Week.
LOS ANGELES — Melody Gomez of Merced College and Emily Johnson of Cosumnes River College have been named the California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association (3CFCA) Players of the Week.
Gomez picks up 3CFCA Pitcher of the Week accolades after going 4-1 and amassing an incredible 42 strikeouts. She struck out 12 batters in a 10-0 win over Chabot while allowing just one hit. She followed that performance in game two against Chabot, pitching a no-hitter while striking out 10.
She pitched her third shutout of the week in a gritty 1-0 win over Sacramento City where she struck out eight.
Gomez allowed just three earned runs and walked only four batters in 30 innings of work.
Johnson picks up 3CFCA Player of the Week honors after leading the Hawks to a 4-0 week. She totaled seven hits, five RBI, one home run, one double, and a walk.
She had her best game against Lassen when she drove in three runs off two hits with a home run. Johnson also recorded three hits and drove in a run in a 9-1 win over Butte.
In her final game of the week, she added two hits, one RBI, and a double to improve Cosumnes River’s record to 7-1.
