SACRAMENTO (5-5) – The Hawks played their second game of their 2017 California Community College Athletic Association Softball Championship series against Butte College. The Hawks scored seven runs in the fifth en route to an 8-0 win over the Roadrunners.
The Hawks won game one of the series 6-1, yesterday, at CRC Softball Field.
The pitching matchup was between the Hawks' Brittany Barroni and the Roadrunners' Baylee Thayer. The Hawks would strike first in the top of the second inning as Alex Scardina would score on a wild pitch. The Hawks would lead 1-0 at the end of the second inning. In the top of the fifth inning, the Hawks would explode for seven runs – two on a Chelsea Martinez double to center field that scored Cecilia Rivera and Miranda Rodriguez, two on a Taelor Ford single to left field that scored Courtney Beatty and Martinez, one on a Roadrunners' hit batsman, one on a Rivera sacrifice fly to right that scored Lindsay Lambert and one on a passed ball that scored Veronica Smith.
Barroni got the win for the Hawks and Thayer got the loss for the Roadrunners. For the Hawks, Martinez went 2-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Ford went 1-3 with two RBIs runs and one run scored. For the Roadrunners, Jenna Robicheau went 2-3.
Cosumnes River will wait to hear where they will go for the CCCAA Northern California Softball Super Regionals.
