West Valley opened the 2017 season with a 12-1 win over Chabot in Saratoga. The Vikings scored nine runs in the bottom of the fourth by capitalizing on three Chabot errors, highlighted by a two-out bases loaded three run double by sophomore Ashley Boerner. West Valley sent 13 batters to the plate in the fourth and nine runs in that inning were unearned.
Reina Maldonado (1-0) went the distance and scattered two hits to pick up a win in her community college debut.
West Valley will face Chabot again in Hayward on Saturday at noon.
