FOSTER CITY'S MEAGAN & RILEY WELLS STAR FOR TOP RANKED CSM SOFTBALL TEAM
Meagan and Riley Wells of Foster City continue to play an important role on College of Mateo's state top-ranked women's softball team.
The sisters totaled six hits (in nine at bats) and scored six runs as the Bulldogs (15-1) ran their 2-year home winning streak to 47 games with a shutout sweep of West Hills College (Coalinga), 11-0 and 15-0.
In the first game, Riley Wells, a sophomore playing right field, had a pair of hits and joined her sister Meagan in scoring during a 6-run first inning. Ten San Mateo players contributed to the 15-hit outburst.
Shortstop Meagan Wells, a freshman, led CSM's 12-hit barrage in the second game with three hits and two RBIs and also scored three times. She went 4-for-6 on the day, increasing her batting average to .463 and team lead in hits to 25. Riley Wells is batting .342.
The duo are graduates of Bowditch Middle School and Hillsdale High School.
CSM pitchers Samantha Dean (out of Burlingame High) and Christy Peterson (Carlmont) combined for a no-hitter in the second West Hills game. Dean got the win to improve to 7-0. She hit a first inning home run and a third inning double, bringing home Meagan Wells both times.
San Mateo leads the state's 83 community college fastpitch teams in hits (171), doubles (39), and runs batted in (118). The Bulldogs are hitting .404 as a team.
