Ventura College opens men's tennis season and WSC with 9-0 sweep at Santa Barbara City

SANTA BARBARA - The VC men's tennis team opened the 2022 season Tuesday with a 9-0 sweep at Santa Barbara City College. The Pirate trio of Santino Serralonga, Regnar Madarang, and Sam Ashbrook did not drop a game on the back half of singles play winning the Nos. 4, 5, and 6 slots each love and love.
The Pirates (1-0, 1-0) started off strong in doubles play with Phil Jabin and Jinsei Tajima taking the No. 3 match 8-1. Yuya Koide and Ryan Lam won in the No. 2 slot 8-2 while Brodie Sodersten and Ashbrook claimed the No. 1 doubles match 8-6.
VC continued their success in the back half of singles with Serralonga, Madarang, and Ashbrook all producing love and love triumphs. Koide won his No. 3 singles match 6-2, 6-2 as did Jabin at No. 1. Sodersten prevailed at No. 2 singles 7-5, 6-1 to complete the sweep for Ventura.
The Pirates continue Western State Conference play on Thursday, Feb. 3 hosting Glendale at 2:00 pm.
