SANTA ROSA - The second day of the 3C2A State Swimming and Diving Championships featured five more meet records shattered, including two more involving American River College phenom Cayden Pitzer as he has helped the Beavers take a slim lead in the men's team standings on Friday.
Meanwhile, Mt. San Antonio tops the women's standings despite three records set by other schools as the Santa Rosa Junior College pool has already produced nine state meet records.
Pitzer, who set the 200-yard individual medley mark and was on the team's 400 medley relay records on Thursday, teamed up with Josh Branson, David Tsypan and Gar Long to set a new standard in winning the 200 medley relay in 1:28.86. Pitzer then put up a monster performance in breaking an 11-year-old record in the 100 breaststroke at 52.98.
American River also got two event wins by Tsypan, who won both the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.
On the women's side, Santa Barbara City's Lily Carrick sets a new mark in the 400 IM at 4:27 flat, needing all of it to beat Allan Hancock's Noemi Bravo-Guzman's 4:27.47. American River's Caitlin Wham captures the 100 butterfly state record in 54.77 while LA Valley's Ciera Center shatters the 3-meter diving board points record for her second title of the meet.
Mt. SAC won the 200 medley relay to highlight its 38-point lead over SBCC, 305-267. American River is currently in third with 214.
On the men's side, Sierra won the 800 freestyle relay and continues to put pressure on ARC, trailing the Beavers by just four points, 307-303, in the hotly contested standings. Mt. SAC is third with 247.
