SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — How about that for a bounce-back?
Armando Medina netted a hat trick, the Coyotes registered their first shutout of the season, and the Lake Tahoe Community College men's soccer team prevailed with 10 men over the final 35 minutes in a 3-0 win over visiting Siskiyous in Golden Valley Conference (GVC) play on Tuesday afternoon.
After winning three in a row Sept. 22-29, LTCC was shutout by visiting Feather River in its first contest of October.
Looks like the Coyotes recovered well.
Medina, a freshman from Sparks, Nev., confidently slotted home a penalty kick in the 45th minute to put the Coyotes in the lead.
Three minutes into the second half, Elijah Rivera found Medina for his second goal of the day to add some cushion.
LTCC received a shock to the system when goalkeeper Benjamín Jónsson was red-carded in the 54th minute, putting the Coyotes down a man the rest of the way. John Gonzalez stepped in between the pipes and was able to keep Siskiyous off the scoresheet.
Medina put the game to bed in the 69th minute when he converted Ezekiel Duarte's dish to make it 3-0.
The hat trick marks the second for the Coyotes in the last three games, following Joseph Gonzalez's performance in a 7-1 win over Shasta on Sept. 29.
LTCC (5-5-3, 2-1-0 GVC) next visits Butte College on Oct. 13 before hosting Shasta on Oct. 23.
