LTCC routs Shasta, falls to Feather River on GVC opening week
The Coyotes erupted for seven goals on the road before dropping its home GVC opener to the Golden Eagles.
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — The Lake Tahoe Community College men's soccer team officially entered Golden Valley Conference (GVC) play, defeating Shasta College 7-1 before dropping a 2-0 decision to Feather River College.
The Coyotes (4-5-3, 1-1-0 GVC) started conference play on a high note by winning their third road match in a row and putting up a season-high seven against Shasta (0-3-1, 0-2-0 GVC).
After five games on the road, LTCC returned home for the first time since Sept. 15. However, FRC (7-2-2, 2-0-0 GVC) proved to be an unwelcome guest as the Golden Eagles handed LTCC its first shutout since Sept. 4.
The Coyotes continue GVC play with a single home match this week against Siskiyous (2-7-2, 0-3-1 GVC) on Tuesday, October 6 at 4pm. Watch the game live here.

REDDING, Calif. — LTCC erased an early deficit to score seven unanswered goals and cap off its five-game road trip in style.
Joseph Gonzalez recorded a hat trick to pace an LTCC offensive outburst that outshot the hosts 23-3.
Shasta capitalized on an early opportunity to take the lead in the 18th minute. However, the lead was short-lived.
Gonzalez netted the equalizer in the 26th minute, finishing off a feed from Gonzalo Barajas-Elorza. Just four minutes later, Quinton Alewine gave the Coyotes the lead for good, burying a pass from Ian Andrade in the 30th minute to send LTCC into the break with a 2-1 advantage.
The floodgates opened in the second half. Gonzalez converted a penalty kick in the 50th minute to make it 3-1, and an own goal in the 55th minute stretched the lead to three.
LTCC continued to pour it on in the final 25 minutes. Armando Medina found the back of the net in the 65th minute off an assist from Alexis Soto, and George Hernandez-Elorza added an unassisted tally — the first of the freshman's collegiate career — in the 75th minute to make it 6-1.
Gonzalez capped off his stellar afternoon in the 82nd minute, scoring unassisted to secure his hat trick. The Las Vegas product now leads the Coyotes with seven goals and 16 points (seven goals, two assists) on the season.
"Today was a good team win. These games help us build momentum and confidence toward the bigger challenges that are ahead of us," said LTCC head coach Carlos Trujeque Leal.
The Coyotes have outscored Shasta 17-4 in the programs' last three games over the past two seasons.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — The Lake Tahoe Community College men's soccer team returned to its home pitch on Friday afternoon but suffered a 2-0 defeat to Feather River College in Golden Valley Conference (GVC) play.
Feather River's Pablo Guevara-Mangas proved to be the difference-maker, netting both goals for the Golden Eagles. Both scoring plays were set up by assists from Tim Van Lottum.
Guevara-Mangas opened the scoring early, finding the back of the net in the 11th minute to give Feather River a 1-0 advantage that it would carry into halftime.
Despite creating opportunities, the Coyotes were unable to break through the Feather River defense. Joseph Gonzalez paced the LTCC attack with a game-high five shots, putting two on frame. Alexis Soto added four shots, while Quinton Alewine, Gonzalo Barajas-Elorza, Yvan de la Haije and Mason Franks each registered a shot on goal.
As LTCC pushed for a second-half equalizer, Guevara-Mangas struck again in the 77th minute, doubling the visitors' lead and putting the match out of reach.
Freshman goalkeeper Benjamín Jónsson made a season-high seven saves between the pipes for Lake Tahoe.
