Lower seeds advance while top-seeded Long Beach City and fifth-seeded Cañada also move to state finals

SACRAMENTO - SoCal top seed Long Beach City College used a 3-1 win over Cerritos on Saturday to advance to the 3C2A Men's Soccer Championship Tournament while No. 5 Cañada was the highest seed in NorCal to earn a spot in this weekend's event as the four-team field is set thanks also to 10th-seed Cuyamaca and 14th-seed Butte joining the part after continuing their postseason surges.
Cañada moved on after penalty kicks decided a 0-0 draw with No. 8 Merced, Cuyamaca returns to the final four for the second straight year after downing No. 19 MiraCosta, 2-0, and Butte punched its ticket with a 3-1 road upset over Skyline.
The flurry of action set the table for this weekend's championship at American River College. Competition begins on Friday with Cuyamaca (16-4-2) and Cañada (14-3-7) squaring off at 10 a.m. in the first semifinal while Butte (17-4-4) and Long Beach (19-3-3) follow at 1 p.m in the second. The championship will be played at 11 a.m. on Sunday. All games will be broadcast by BAOSN and are $12 per day (plus fees).
