Compton - Coming off a three-game losing streak and a 0 and 2 conference record, The Los Angeles City Cubs desperately needed a win to get their season back on track when they visited Compton College on Tuesday, October 12th. LACC defeated Compton three goals to zero.
The Cubs were in control the entire game and reduced the Tartars offense to only three shots on goal, while LACC had ten shots on target. In the 30th minute Attacker Kristopher Rodriguez, scored his first and long-awaited goal this season from a pass by teammate Ivan Castrejon. Rodriguez had been denied numerous times throughout the season and his goal could not have come at a better time, just when his team needed it most.
The Cubs were not satisfied and in the second half they went looking for more goals. In the 48th minute winger Juan Felix was brought down inside the penalty box with a mistimed sliding tackle that the referee marked as a penalty. Defender Giovanni Marquez stepped up to take it and calmly tapped in the second goal. It was Marquez's first goal of the season as well.
The third goal for LACC came in the 80th minute when defender-turned winger-turned attacker Oscar Garcia's speed beat the Compton back line and lobbed the ball over the goalkeeper. It was Garcia's 3rd goal of the season. It was a much needed win to a team that is determined to be a force to be reckoned with. Their next match is Friday, October 15th at LACC.
