Cypress roars out to 16-stroke lead at CCCAA Men's Golf Championships at Sandpiper Golf Club

GOLETA - Cypress College, in search of its first state title in men’s golf, set itself up handsomely after posting a morning team score of 362 to hold a 16-stroke lead over Orange Empire Conference rival Orange Coast College during the CCCAA Men’s Golf State Championship on the Sandpiper Golf Club course.
The teams are currently on the course for their second round which will be finished later Monday.
Cypress sophomore George Bris posted a 3-under-par 69 to be the early leader in the clubhouse for individual honors. He posted three birdies with no bogeys on the front nine, then started the back nine with a pair of bogeys before recovering to post two more birdies to finish at even-par on the back side. Sophomore teammate Matt Rafter added a 2-under-par 70, carding three birdies and a bogey on the front nine and adding two birdies and two bogies on the back nine.
Adam Nelson of Reedley College also posted a 3-under-par 69, posting two birdies and a bogey on the front nine and adding two birdies on the back nine to share individual honors in the morning.
Orange Coast posted a 378 to currently sit in second place, leading a group of four teams battling for second position. Reedley is tied for third with Chabot College at 380 while defending state champion College of the Canyons is a stroke back at 381.
