Citrus’ Simmons, Sierra’s Hunter Named 3CFCA State Players of the Week

The California Community College Football Coaches Association (3CFCA) has named Citrus College wide receiver Lorenza Simmons the State Offensive Player of the Week and Sierra College defensive back Abraham Hunter its State Defensive Player of the Week for Week 2.

Simmons had a historic night for Citrus in a narrow loss to Saddleback on Saturday. He caught 10 passes for 301 yards and three TDs. He also returned six kicks for 204 yards and another touchdown. His 301 yards receiving is a program record as are his 505 all-purpose yards for a single game. And his three touchdown receptions also matched the top mark in program history.

Simmons is a sophomore originally out of Wildwood High School in Gainesville, Florida.

Hunter came up with the biggest play of the game in helping Sierra upset defending 3C2A champion and No. 1 San Mateo on Saturday.

San Mateo had just scored a touchdown in the fourth overtime period and had to go for a two-point PAT. On the play, Hunter intercepted the CSM pass and returned it 97-yards for a six-point defensive PAT.

He also added four tackles in the contest.

Hunter is a freshman out of West Park High School in Roseville.

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA FOOTBALL CONFERENCE (NCFC) PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

National Division Offensive: Jayden Weber, De Anza, WR
Weber hauled in six receptions for 200 yards (33.3 YPC) and two TDs in De Anza's win over Laney. 

National Division Defensive: Abraham Hunter, Sierra, DB
Hunter's interception in the fourth overtime period helped secure Sierra's upset win over No. 1 San Mateo.

American Division Offensive: Amariyeh McCullough, Los Medanos, WR
McCullough averaged 40 yards per catch with four receptions for 160 yards and three TDs for Los Medanos against Coalinga.

American Division Defensive: Julian Zaragoza, Coalinga, LB
Zaragoza posted a school-record three interceptions and added six tackles in Coalinga's win over Los Medanos.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION (SCFA) PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Offensive: Dominic Duran, Southwestern, QB
Duran completed 19 of 24 passes for 434 yards and five TDs, with a long of 80 yards in Southwestern's 52-10 win over Grossmont. He also rushed four times for 13 yards.

Defensive: Patrick Hill Jr., El Camino, DB
Hill Jr. led the Warriors with 12 tackles (six solo) in a 43-24 win at College of the Canyons. He also added 1.5 tackles for loss and recorded one of the team's two interceptions in the game.

Special Teams/All-Purpose: Lorenza Simmons, WR, Citrus
In a 39-36 loss to Saddleback, Simmons caught 10 passes for 301 total yards and three TDs. Simmons also returned six kicks for 204 yards and another touchdown.
