Little change in 3C2A football with San Mateo, Golden West and Ventura s in top three
SAN MATEO – With no weekend upsets among the top dozen teams, there is little change this week in the JC Athletic Bureau’s poll for the California Community College Football Coaches Association. College of San Mateo remains a unanimous No. 1 selection after opening defense of its Bay 6 league title with a 30-24 defeat of formerly No. 4 Diablo Valley College, dropping the Vikings (now 5-1) to No. 8 this week.
While CSM took all 15 first-place votes and totaled 375 points, Golden West remained in second with 354 points -- with Ventura third (348). All are 6-0. Moving up one place apiece this week are No. 4 Southwestern (6-0), No. 5 Monterey Peninsula (6-0), No. 6 Mt. San Antonio (5-1), and No. 7 Butte (5-1).
San Mateo faces another first-round Bay 6 winner in No. 18 Foothill (4-2) Saturday evening in Los Altos Hills. Golden West is 3-0 in the Central League after defeating No. 17 Pasadena, 28-21, and visits winless Orange Coast on Saturday. Northern League leader Ventura downed Allan Hancock, 31-14, and hosts No. 17 Citrus (4-2) Saturday. Co-Southern League leader Southwestern, perfect after beating Palomar, 38-24, hosts No. 15 Riverside this week. MPC, still unbeaten after beginning National Division Valley League play with a 40-31 win over Reedley, faces a strong test Saturday at No. 13 Sequoias.
