Former Bulldog Luke Kovach picked up in 2025 MLB Draft
CUMBERLAND, Georgia - Former Allan Hancock College pitcher, Luke Kovach, was picked up in the 19th round of the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday.
The Lompoc native spent two seasons on the mound for the Bulldogs before transferring to continue on at the four-year level. Throughout his AHC career, Kovach tallied three wins and six saves while working towards 111 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.87 through 25 appearances (74.1 IP). He was chosen as a First Team All-Conference honoree as a freshman (2022) for his work in relief while ranking 14th in the state amongst the closing arms.
Kovach transferred to Cal Poly (SLO), but missed the entire 2024 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in December 2023. The lefty made five appearances for the Mustangs during his redshirt junior season in 2025, picking up one win against UC Riverside in May after surrendering just one run and two hits while striking out six. He also struck out five through 2 1/3 frames in the team win over Utah Valley in early June.
Kovach is a 2021 graduate of Cabrillo High School in Vandenberg Village outside of Lompoc.
