San Diego City explodes for 19 hits, five Homers in 19-1 win over College of the Desert

SAN DIEGO - San Diego City had its best offensive showing of this young season with 19 hits, five home runs, and 12 RBI in a 17-5 home win over Desert. Quinn Johnson, Jacob Pfitzner, Alejandro Gonzalez, Jackson Ely, and Luke Rohen all blasted the ball over Morley Field's fence as the Knights improved to 4-2.
Landyn Magina did not homer, but did hit four singles in six at-bats and drove in two runs.
The Knights held a 2-1 lead after one inning, but Desert scored three runs in the second inning and then tacked on one more in the fourth to take a 5-2 lead.
Magina's RBI-single in the bottom of the fourth closed the gap to 5-3 and then the Knights exploded for nine runs in the fifth to turn the game on its head.
Pfitzner scored the first run of that inning on an error, which was followed by a Gonzalez 2-RBI double. After Gonzalez scored on a wild pitch, Magina hit another RBI-single to give the Knights a 9-5 lead.
Johnson and Pfitzner finished off the fifth inning with back-to-back home runs to put City ahead, 12-5.
The Knights were not done yet as Jackson Ely hit his first homer (2 RBI) of the season in the sixth inning.
Then, in the eighth inning, Gonzalez hit a solo shot to give the Knights a 16-5 lead.
Three batters later, Luke Rohen came up to the plate for the first time this season and hit a home run to left field to put an exclamation point on the big win, City's second over Desert this season.
Jaylin Padilla came in as a reliever in the third inning and pitched 3.1 innings with four strikeouts to earn his first win.
The Knights will now travel to play at Mt. San Jacinto on Tuesday at 1 p.m. Both teams will face off again at Morley Field on Thursday at 1 p.m.
