Souza, Slavens headline All-Tournament teams from 3C2A Men's and Women's Water Polo Championships
MVP Souza tops 3C2A Men’s All-State Tournament team
SARATOGA - Golden West rallied past West Valley two weeks ago to claim its eighth-consecutive 3C2A men’s water polo state championship. Goalkeeper Pablo Souza was the brick wall foundation behind the title and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, the California Community College Water Polo Coaches Association recently announced.
The sophomore from Sao Paulo, Brazil recorded 24 saves in the tournament, including eight against West Valley in the championship and 15 in the state semifinal against Long Beach City. Souza also came away with five steals.
Golden West mentor Scott Taylor was named the Coach of the Year. Souza heads up 14 All-State Tournament 1st and 2nd Team selections.

MVP Slavens leads 3C2A Women’s All-State Tournament team
SARATOGA - Long Beach City’s Olivia Slavens was the Most Valuable Player of the 2024 3C2A Women’s Water Polo State Championships, the California Community College Water Polo Coaches Association recently announced.
The sophomore attacker from Los Alamitos, CA was a key component the Vikings’ run through the championship tournament, scoring ten goals on 21 shots in three games, along with 10steals, three assists, two drawn ejections and a pair of field blocks.
Slavens heads up 14 All-State Tournament 1st and 2nd Team selections. Long Beach coach Chris Oeding was named the Coach of the Year.
