However, the district is also supportive of the separate proposal by members of the Golden Valley Conference to add two new members to the GVC*--recognizing that this change would very likely impose new travel costs on Mendocino College and Yuba College (or any other colleges that might be proposed for addition to GVC)--and that these colleges need to be consulted to determine if such a change is feasible at this time. Finally, FRCCD would encourage COA to support cost-reduction proposals that go beyond those currently listed; more may be needed in order to preserve sports programs at various colleges in these difficult times. -Ron Taylor, Superintendent/President

However, our Athletic Director has provided the following feedback: One area that I would like to be emphasized in your response is the area of the cost of the Officials. In the proposal it is noted that in June the COA Board did not approve a recommendation to try and lower the cost of the Officials (#11). It also references (#14) that the CCCAA Executive Director will try to open a dialogue with the different Officials Associations. I believe that this is an area to stress because the cost of the Officials is really skyrocketing. An example is the cost for our women's basketball team this year. For 6 home games this year the cost is $2,160.00 with a $300.00 assigning fee. We also hosted a 3 day tournament (11 games) that cost $3,015.00 plus a $60.00 assigning fee (the tournament was paid by entry fees from the visiting teams). This is a lot of money and it would be great if these costs could possibly get lowered, or at least frozen for the time being. -Harriet Robles. President
