Mt.
San Jacinto College I have discussed this with my athletic administrators and we at MSJC support this proposal. I also appreciate the attempt at trying to ease our fiscal pain while maintaining opportunities for our student athletes. Still, no thought of collapsing the present athletic program review model with visitations and modifying it to align more with the accreditation cycle and established local practices? This might make it more efficient with a paper self-study review/evaluation report without a visit unless requested by the school or a team member? This would certainly save on travel costs and staff time and still meet the intent of PR. -Roger Schultz, Superintendent/President |

Monterey Peninsula College Thank you for composing the cost containment proposal. We are supportive of the COA proposals for cost containment. However, we are concerned about the proposal to move Bakersfield, Hancock and Cuesta into the Valley Conference. The three colleges are quite a distance from most northern schools and we are already accommodating Shasta, Redwoods, and Lassen etc. Additionally, all three would like to stay in the south. Thank you for your consideration. -Douglas R.Garrison, Superintendent/President |

To: Carlyle Carter and COA Board From: Ron Taylor, Superintendent/President, FRCCD Date: Nov. 30, 2009 Concerning: Cost Containment Proposals for CCCAA Colleges |
Feather River College Feather River College (FRCCD) supports the cost-containment proposals contained in the materials you sent out. However, the district is also supportive of the separate proposal by members of the Golden Valley Conference to add two new members to the GVC*--recognizing that this change would very likely impose new travel costs on Mendocino College and Yuba College (or any other colleges that might be proposed for addition to GVC)--and that these colleges need to be consulted to determine if such a change is feasible at this time. Finally, FRCCD would encourage COA to support cost-reduction proposals that go beyond those currently listed; more may be needed in order to preserve sports programs at various colleges in these difficult times. -Ron Taylor, Superintendent/President |

Golden West
College Golden West College concurs with trying out recommendations 1-19, although it is difficult to access in any meaningful way what the real cost savings would be at the college or state level. While we do not object to the re-conferencing proposal – it does not clearly identify significant cost savings benefits and may need additional analysis and review. If cost savings is the reason it is being implemented then that analysis should clearly support these proposals. -Wes Bryan, President |

Lemoore Thanks to you and everyone for addressing issues pertaining to costs. Yes, we all are in the same set of circumstances trying to balance budgets. I think the recommendations listed are a good start. For us, we are trying to reduce travel as much as possible and item #4 using CCC Confer for meetings is a good idea. Also, I support the suggestions for re-conferencing as it pertains to the Central Valley Conference with the addition of Bakersfield, Cuesta, and Allan Hancock. -Don Warkentin, President |
