Orange Empire Conference athletes grab November SIA state awards

WOMEN
Kylie Beu, Saddleback College, soccer, sophomore forward
A clutch-scoring striker, Beu proved to play her best during Saddleback's postseason run in helping the Bobcats win the CCCAA women's soccer state championship. Beu scored the game-winning goals in each of Saddleback's first two November playoff wins, 6-0 over Santa Monica, then the lone score in a 1-0 thriller over Cypress. In the state semifinals, she rallied her team with two second-half goals in a 3-1 win over San Joaquin Delta. Then in the state championship game, Kylie headed in the game-winning goal in the 72nd minute of a 2-0 triumph over Chaffey. Beu was later named the U.S. Soccer Coaches Association National Player of the Year.
MEN
Garrett Henderson, Golden West College, water polo, sophomore, goalie
Henderson was Mr. November in back-stopping Golden West to the Orange Empire Conference championship, the Southern California Regional title, and the CCCAA State crown. The Rustlers' goalie was named state tournament MVP after making an outstanding 12 saves in Golden West's finals victory over West Valley, 9-7. He was third in the state in save percentage at .535 and was the starter on the team's 17-match win streak that completed the program's sixth consecutive state title.
