Bio

Pat is a product of the California Community College system, having attended Chabot College, Diablo Valley College, and College of the Desert. Pat graduated with honors from the University of California Riverside and completed her master’s degree at San Francisco State University.

Pat’s career started at Yucca Valley High School in 1971 where, in addition to serving as the first girls volleyball and basketball coach, she was directly responsible for the creation of the first interscholastic sports program for girls. The program was an instant success, winning the League Championship every year she coached. Pat was the first coach inducted into the Yucca Valley High School Hall of Fame for her contributions to the school.

Pat was hired by Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) in 1976 as the women’s athletic coordinator, physical education/health instructor, and volleyball and tennis coach. She is the most successful coach in SBCC history, winning 19 Western State Conference titles in 21 seasons as women’s volleyball and women’s tennis coach and winning almost 90 percent of her games, finishing with a 378 - 44 record.

Pat coached women’s volleyball for six years, compiling a 128-16 record with five Western State Conference (WSC) championships and four Coach of the Year honors. Pat’s volleyball teams were ranked in the top three in the state for three years. Pat also coached women’s tennis for 15 years, compiling a 250-28 record, 14 WSC titles, and 10 Coach of the Year honors. Pat was the California Community College Tennis Association Coach of the Year in 1991 and was inducted into the California Community College Tennis Coaches Hall of Fame in 2000.

Pat was the SBCC Women’s Athletic Coordinator in 1976, one year before women became members of the Western State Conference.  Pat served as the WSC representative from 1977-1994 and as the WSC representative to the CCCAA (previously named Commission on Athletics) from 1985-1991.  At SBCC she was the physical education/ health division chairperson from 1985-2003 and a member of the Academic Senate.

For over 30 years, Pat has been an active member of the Board of Directors for the Santa Barbara Athletic Roundtable, a local, nonprofit, all volunteer organization that serves “to recognize and support athletic participation as an important means of fostering discipline, teamwork, self respect, personal responsibility, and camaraderie.  The Athletic Round Table provides a public forum for athletic coaches and athletes; grants financial support to organizations, teams, and individuals to further their participation in sports, and publicly honors athletic performance, scholastic achievement and exemplary ethical behavior.”  Pat received the Louise Lowry Davis award from the Round Table in 1996 for her many contributions to women’s athletics in Santa Barbara and was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 1999.  Pat has stayed active on the Board since her retirement from SBCC in 2003.

Pat is extremely proud of her son and daughter and their families.  She has six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
