Bio

Dr. Ted Leland (Chabot College) is a Chabot College alumnus, where he spent two years and played football during his time there (1965-66). After his time at Chabot, Leland transferred to the University of the Pacific where he completed his Bachelors and Masters Degrees. Leland became Athletic Director at Stanford in 1991 after serving as AD at his alma mater and Dartmouth College, Senior Associate at Northwestern University, and Assistant AD at Houston. Leland also served as an Assistant Football Coach and PE Instructor at Stanford during 1978-79. In 1982 Ted earned his PH.D in Education/Sport Psychology at Stanford. While Athletic Director at Stanford for 14 years (1991-2005), Ted was the guiding force in leading the athletics program that was voted the most admired collegiate athletic program in the nation. While Leland was AD at Stanford the College won 50 national team championships, 173 conference championships and an NCAA record six national titles. Following a 2nd place finish in the inaugural year (1993-94), Stanford has won the prestigious Directors Cup, 16 consecutive years and holds 1st place in 2010-11. The Directors Cup symbolizes overall excellence and recognizes the top athletic programs in the Nation.
