Woodrow "Woody" Hutchison began teaching in 1955 at the then called American River Junior College. He was located at the temporary quarters and moved to the main campus in 1958 when it opened. In 1960 he became Director of Athletics, serving that role until 1976. He retired in 1980. Later the ARC gym was named after him, the Hutchison Gymnasium.
