2023 Women’s Wrestling Starts with the Cerritos Open
Cerritos College hosted seven teams their Women's Open on January 28th.
NORWALK, Calif. - A handful of teams opened the 2023 California Community College Women' Wrestling season at the Cerritos College Women's Open on Saturday, January 28th.
The field was composed of five community college teams as Bakersfield, Cerritos, East LA, Mt. San Antonio and Palomar all competed. In addition, two four year schools got in all the action with Menlo College and Vanguard University making an appearance.
Although the team scores were not kept, individuals did have the chance to earn their place on the podium in their weight classes.
Cerritos had one of the best days for the group of community colleges as they saw two wrestlers earn first place finishes. Aine Drury (155lbs) and Nile Jernigan (170lbs) landed at the top of the podium for the Falcons while Lucy Guadarrama (109lbs) impressed with a second place performance.

Mt. San Antonio held their own with two ladies (Elizabeth Carrillo - 143lbs & Sofia Vergara - 136lbs) earning second place in their classes while two other team members managed to win a match.
Palomar saw Anya Rodriguez (136lbs) and Sierra Mefford (170lbs) take third in their respective classes while East LA and Bakersfield had a few women competing as well.
