San Mateo Part of Upper Echelon At #5 On State Women's Volleyball Top 25
College of San Mateo has established itself among the elite in NorCal and stands at #5 on this week's *3CWVCA State Volleyball Top 25 Rankings #5.
The Bulldogs made it to the 2022 3C2A state semifinals but haven't advanced to the Elite Eight since. Last year, they reached the Regional Finals before being knocked out by eventual state champ Feather River.
CSM (12-4 overall) has one loss v. #1 Fresno City and two other defeats v. #2 FRC this season (one in five sets). The Bulldogs have premium wins over #6 San Diego Mesa (five sets), #7 Taft last week (five sets), and #8 Long Beach City.
Fresno (15-0), #3 South leader San Diego Miramar (12-0) and #4 Los Angeles Mission (14-0) continued their undefeated seasons.
Taft shuttled up three spots to #7 with a big 5-set victory over now #10 San Joaquin Delta. San Bernardino Valley rounds out the top 10 at #9.
Moving upward are #11 Saddleback (up one), #12 Pasadena City (up one), #13 Ventura (up two), #15 Lassen (up three), #19 Clovis (bolts ahead five spots), #20 American River (up three), #21 Santa Rosa (up one), and #23 Hartnell (up two).
The North region has never had such a majority of ranked teams ever until this week as it occupies 14 slots compared to the South's 11. While the South has lesser ranked teams, all 11 are among the top 17 including #14 Santa Monica, #16 Moorpark and #17 Palomar.
Overall, 20 teams have reached the 10-win mark. The Golden Valley has four of that group as Lassen leads the state with 18 victories while Feather River and #24 Shasta each follow both tied with #1 FCC, all with 15 wins. The GVC's top 3 has a sparkling 48-9 record. Also from that conference, both College of the Siskiyous (11-7) and College of the Redwoods (8-7) have current better than .500 records.
West Valley found its way back on the rankings at #25 thanks to a sweep over Shasta.
