Long Beach Reclaims Top Spot in Newest 3CSIA Poll
If a poll such as the biweekly 3CSIA sports information professionals is nothing more than a snapshot in time, the race amongst the field of California's women's soccer team may end up looking like a photo finish.
A pair of unbeaten teams remain at the top. Long Beach City returned to the top spot in the latest poll, released Nov. 3, retaking the top spot from Folsom Lake as the teams jockey for position in the rankings and among the voters. The Vikings received eight first place votes and 271 points, ahead of 246 points and three first-place votes for Folsom Lake.
But the race to the top is so tight that the other two remaining unbeaten teams ended up farther behind. San Francisco City ended up at No. 4 with 222 points, 20 points behind No. 3 Saddleback and only one point ahead of No. 5 Fresno. The other unbeaten, Santiago Canyon, ended at No. 7 with 189 points, only one ahead of No. 8 Mt. San Antonio. Sierra, and its two first-place votes, were nestled in at No. 6 with 217 points.
After Mt. SAC, the totals spread out amongst the final tally. Santa Barbara landed at No. 9 with 153 points, and Cypress moved into the top 10 for the first time this year with 137 points.
In all, the South took seven of the top 10 spots, and held an 11-9 advantage in the top 20.
