Fresno City Tops First Men's Wrestling State Rankings
The first 3C2A men's wrestling rankings for the 2026 season have officially landed, confirming that the road to the state title runs straight through Fresno City College.
After dominating at the SCC Dave Pacheco Invitational and the Lemoore College Invitational, the Rams set the pace for the rest of state by placing a top-tier contender in nearly every weight class.
Fresno City's dominant stance is fueled by four individual wrestlers sitting at No. 1 in their respective weight divisions:
Raymond Rivera (141 lbs)
Noel Garcia (157 lbs)
Austin Simmons (174 lbs)
Joseph Buck (184 lbs)
Each of these powerhouse wrestlers captured first place titles at both their first two tournaments to seal their place at the top of the state.
Supporting their frontline starters, Fresno City also boasts high-caliber contenders like David Chacon (No. 2 at 125 lbs), Carlos Melgoza (No. 2 at 133 lbs ), and Cannon Quintana (No.3 at 133 lbs), cementing the team's position as the state tournament favorite.
However, the team battle is far from a runaway. Mt. San Antonio College sits comfortably behind them at No. 2 in the overall team rankings, led by 165 lb No. 1 Veysel Pekince. They also have 11 other wrestlers who are ranked and four more that were voted honorable mention in their weight classes.
Victor Valley College emerged as a heavyweight threat, capturing the No. 3 spot in the team standings behind two individual No. 1 ranked wrestlers of their own in Paulo Valdez (125 lbs)
and Jose Molina (133 lbs).
Both Valdez and Molina asserted early dominance with flawless 3-0 dual performances and individual titles at Lemoore to stake their claims atop the lightweights.
In addition, VVC saw Jonathan Ugarte (No. 2 at 165) and Marcos Nava (No. 2 at 174) finish runner-up in Lemoore. Victor Valley has made it clear that they have the top-end firepower to push anyone on the mat.
Meanwhile, Cerritos College (No. 4 overall) and Santa Rosa Junior College rounded out the top individual spots with No.1 ranked Isaac Gonzales (149 lbs) and Jonah Bertoli (197 lbs), respectively.
