Women's Basketball improved to 3-1 with a win over Hartnell, 71-49, in the first round of the 34th Phillips 66 Classic at Cuesta College.
Center Dakota Shinn led the Cougars against the Panthers with 31 points and 14 rebounds, while Guard Courtney Barba filled up the box score with 18 points, 12 boards, eight steals, and three assists. Barba is enjoying her second Phillips 66 Classic. She was named to the all-Tournament team after leading the Cougars to the title game last year.
Cuesta faces Las Positas in tomorrow's championship semi-final at 6 PM. Local rival and defending Phillips 66 Champion Allan Hancock and American River will meet in the other championship semi-final (4 PM). The Bulldogs are led by 2016 Tournament MVP Grace Rosa and all-Tourney selection Taylor Lee-Hammer, but the Beavers, #19 in NorCal, are the only ranked team in the event.
Monterey Peninsula and San Diego (Noon), and Pierce and Hartnell (2 PM) shall play to reach Saturday in the double-elimination tournament in the consolation bracket.
