EVC Holds Steady; Shake Up in Latest 3CSIA Men's Soccer Poll

Choosing a team to sit atop of a regular poll can sometimes be an agonizing pick for voters.

And sometimes, as is the case in the second bi-weekly 3CSIA men's soccer poll of sports information professionals, the choice is obvious.

Evergreen Valley, the only team without a loss in the state, got 12 of 14 first place votes and has a 54-point lead on the rest of the field in the latest poll, released Tuesday.

The Hawks survived a challenge in their last game, coming from behind to earn a draw with the team chasing them in the poll, No. 2 Cañada. The two Coast Conference leaders are in steady positions according to voters, with the Colts holding a 21-point advantage on No. 3 Long Beach. The Vikings ended up two points ahead of No. 4 Santa Rosa.

And this is where the field begins to tighten up, as three teams finished within three points of one another for two places in the poll. One-loss San Bernardino Valley jumped five spots from the previous poll to take the No. 5 spot with 177 points. Fellow one-loss team Butte jumped six spots into a tie at No. 6 with Fresno, who climbed three spots in the new poll.

The two other teams to receive first-place votes, Cuyamaca and Santa Monica, hold down positions 8 and 9, respectively, with Southwestern rounding out the top 10.

In all, 37 teams received a vote in this week's poll. After being shut out of the first poll entirely, perennial power El Camino returned this week at No. 15, partially on the strength of a 1-0 win last week over No. 19 Mt. San Antonio.
