SAN BERNARDINO - For the top seeds in the 2025 3C2A State Men’s Soccer Championships, the road to their No. 1 ranking was almost perfect.
North No. 1 Santa Rosa and South No. 1 Santa Monica each suffered only one defeat during the regular season, but neither was enough to keep them from the top spots when brackets were released Sunday.
For Santa Rosa (16-1-3) the only blemishes on its season came from other teams which earned a first-round bye by being a top-eight seed in the bracket. The only defeat (and one draw) came against No. 6 Folsom Lake, while the other two draws came early in the season against No. 2 Hartnell and No. 5 Canada.
Evergreen Valley landed in the No. 3 spot in the North, and will be joined by No. 4 Cosumnes River, No. 7 West Valley, and No. 8 Merced in earning first-round byes from the North. Those teams will open play at home Saturday.
Down South, Santa Monica’s only loss came in its penultimate game of the season, a wild 5-3 defeat at Bakersfield – a win that propelled the Renegades into the No. 9 spot in the bracket. The Corsairs have been doing it with offense most of the season, racking up 69 goals on the season. Even their draws have been high-scoring affairs, with a pair of 4-4 final scores on the schedule.
Across the bracket from Santa Monica is the Western State Conference’s North Division champion, Oxnard at No. 2. Cuyamaca, at No. 3, enters the postseason on a 13-game unbeaten streak, cruising to the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference title after dropping its conference opener to San Diego City.
Perennial top seed El Camino leads the South Coast Conference contingent at No. 4. It is joined by Mt. San Antonio (No. 7) and Cerritos (No. 8) in earning first-round byes from the conference. Los Angeles Mission took the No. 5 spot, with Norco earning the No. 6 seed.
Tournament play begins Wednesday with seeds 9-24 playing first-round games, with the winners advancing to face their corresponding top-eight seed on Saturday. Games will continue Nov. 25 and Nov. 29 until the final two teams from each region advance to the State Championship round at Saddleback on Dec. 5, with the championship games being played Dec. 7.
