WALNUT - The Saddleback men's soccer team battled No. 2 ranked Mt. San Antonio College to a scoreless draw on Thursday night in Walnut. The Bobcats had their chances against the second ranked team in the nation.
Saddleback is in its first year of playing men's soccer. Mt. San Antonio is a perennial power that played for the state title last year and is currently ranked No. 2 in the nation by the United Soccer Coaches. On paper, Saddleback is supposed to be a heavy underdog. Someone forgot to tell the Bobcats, who battled the Mounties tooth and nail to a scoreless finish.
Saddleback had its chances, but couldn't put away a game-winner. The keepers did their job and kept the Mounties out of the net.
"I'm really proud of the way our guys played," head coach BJ McNicol said. "They hung in there and had some chances."
Saddleback is now 1-1-1 on the season, and have surrendered just two goals in three games. The Bobcats have now gone two straight games without giving up a goal. The shutout streak hit 193 minutes without giving up a goal on Thursday.
Saddleback will play again next Tuesday at San Diego City College. The Bobcats and Knights are scheduled to start at 1 p.m. in San Diego.
