Cuesta Men's Basketball went down to the wire against #7 San Bernardino Valley in the Championship Semi Final of the Hinson's Tire Pros Winter Classic at Cuesta College. The Wolverines avoided the upset and advanced to the title game with a 52-50 win over the host Cougars. The two teams were tied most of the first half, but the Wolverines moved their lead into double-digits with five minutes left, only to have the Cougars close the gap to three at the intermission. Cuesta took advantage of the Wolverine's foul trouble by converting 17 of 20 attempts from the charity strip in the second half as the two teams traded the lead back and forth up until the final buzzer. All-WSC Forward Noah Saunders led all scorers with 24 points and teammate Nico Gonzalez added 14 points in the game, while Chidi Udengwu paced San Bernardino Valley with a dozen points. The Wolverines face East LA in the final (5 PM), after the Huskies legged out a win over Mt San Jacinto, 66-63. Cuesta and Mt San Jacinto shall play for Third Place (3 PM), while Allan Hancock and Pasadena beat LA Harbor, 83-65, and Santa Barbara, respectively, to earn a nod for the Consolation Final (1 PM)
