GAME 4 – SADDLEBACK 11, WEST VALLEY 7
WALNUT -- The Saddleback College Bobcats are looking to keep the state baseball hardware within the Orange Empire Conference family after topping West Valley College, 11-7, in the championship semifinals of the 3C2A Baseball State Championships on Sunday at Mt. San Antonio College.
With the win, the Bobcats (33-17) punched their ticket to the championship final, where they await the winner of the dreaded "Game 5" between West Valley and San Joaquin Delta, who play later on Sunday night. The state championship game will take place on Monday, beginning at 11 a.m.
Jacob Beauchaine went 3-for-5 with three runs and four RBI for Saddleback, including a big 2-run home run that pushed Saddleback's lead to a more comfortable level in the later innings. The top of the order – Ben Castelli, Makani Tanaka, J.C. Allen and Beauchaine – combined for nine runs scored and seven RBI.
Ryan Lordier went 2-for-4 with two RBI for West Valley (38-13), while Dylan Unangst added two hits, a run and two RBI.
Saddleback reliever Tyler Burns (5-1) picked up the win, striking out five while allowing two runs on two hits over the middle three innings.
Saddleback jumped out in front early with a 4-0 lead before the Vikings used a four-run frame in the second to even the contest. But the Bobcats got into the Viking bullpen and scored three runs in the fourth and added two more in the fifth to grab the lead for good.
West Valley got to within a pair at 9-7 before Beauchaine's two-run shot in the top of the eighth completed the scoring.
