Unbeaten Folsom Lake and Chaffey garner top regional seeds as CCCAA Women's Soccer Championship begins
CCCAA Regional Championship brackets: NorCal l SoCal
SAN BERNARDINO - To the undefeated teams go the spoils in the California Community College Athletic Association women’s soccer playoffs.
The two remaining undefeated teams were the top seeds in their region when brackets were announced Monday, with Folsom Lake (17-0-2) sitting atop the North region, and Chaffey (18-0-2) in the No. 1 spot in the South.
The expanded field of 24 teams per region kicks off play Wednesday with the top eight seeded teams in each receiving a first-round bye, opening their playoff journeys at home on Saturday.
Chaffey will face a familiar foe no matter what in their opener. The Panthers will take on the winner of Wednesday’s first-round matchup between No. 16 San Diego Mesa (who Chaffey beat 2-0 on Oct. 25) and their Inland Empire Athletic Conference rivals, No. 17 San Bernardino Valley (who Chaffey held scoreless in their two meetings).
In the South, joining Chaffey with first-round byes are the power trio from the Orange Empire Conference: No. 2 Santiago Canyon (17-1-2), No. 3 Saddleback (16-2-3), and last year’s state runner-up, No. 6 Cypress (13-2-4). All three are in the same side of the bracket, meaning only one will have the chance to make it to the State Final Four at American River College.
The other top-seeded teams in the South are: No. 4 Mt. San Antonio (18-1-1), No. 5 Long Beach City (15-2-3), No. 7 Santa Barbara City (11-3-6), and No. 8 Los Angeles Pierce (13-2-5).
Meanwhile, in the North, the top 3 seeds are all from the Big 8 Conference, with San Joaquin Delta (16-3-2) landing at No. 2 and Sierra (12-3-3) snagging the No. 3 spot.
Rounding out the top eight are No. 4 City College of San Francisco (14-3-1), No. 5 Fresno City (14-2-4), No. 6 Lake Tahoe (14-5-2), No. 7 Cosumnes River (10-8-4), and No. 8 Cabrillo (13-5-1).
