Kills, assists leaders make up State Women's Volleyball Players of the Week #8
Two state statistical leaders are part of this week's CCCWVCA State Players of the Week #8 in Sierra College setter Jordyn Deter and Shasta outside hitter Madelyn Frick as they are joined by Pasadena City outside hitter Biko Hollie.
Deter, an All-NorCal Region selection last year as a freshman, leads the state in assists with an 11.05 average per set this season.
A 5-foot-9 sophomore from Lincoln High (in Sacramento), Deter delivered one of her best matches of the season in Sierra's 4-set win over American River as she handed out 48 assists, landed six kills, made 17 digs, served three aces and had two blocks. She added 38 assists, 10 digs and five kills in the Wolverines sweep over Sacramento.
Frick, a 6-1 talent from Foothill High in Palo Cedro, has helped Shasta to one of its best seasons this century as she is far and away leading the state in kills and kills average (5.58) while also third in the state in aces with 57. She drilled 22 kills with 16 digs, three blocks and two aces in the Knights' only match last week a 4-set win over Lassen. Frick has eclipsed the 30-kill mark four times this year, including 37 v. Cosumnes River.
Hollie is a 5-11 sophomore transfer from NCAA Division I Morgan State University and has become Pasadena's go-to player. A product of Venice High in Los Angeles, she totaled 49 kills and 30 digs in three matches this past week. She scored a season-high 25 kills with 12 digs and two blocks in the Lancers loss v. Mt. San Antonio. She hit a sparkling .524 (13 kills) in PCC's victory over Citrus.
