Defense highlights CCCWVCA State Players of Week #11
Two liberos were this week's CCCWVCA State Player of the Week #11 in Grossmont College's Avery Banaag and Santa Rosa JC's Daya Mosqueda.
Banaag, a 5-foot-3 freshman from Eastlake High in San Diego, made 20 digs in the Griffins' Pacific Coast Athletic Conference title-clinching sweep of San Diego Mesa.
Banaag averages 3.93 digs per set and leads the PCAC in digs and was a game-changer in helping #3-rated Grossmont win a difficult match v. #4 Mesa, a team that leads the state in points per set.
Mosqueda, a 5-4 sophomore out of Windsor High, is third in the state in overall digs with 467 and her 5.37 average per set is fifth among the leaders.
Mosqueda served 11 digs and served two aces in a sweep over Diablo Valley, then her 31 digs and three aces helped SRJC take state #5-ranked Sierra to five sets in defeat.
